Come to the beautiful city of Halifax Nova Scotia to participate in a prestigious tournament and experience
a rare opportunity to catch a Giant Bluefin Tuna!

Every September in Halifax Nova Scotia, local and international competitors join private boaters along with local charters to compete in the "Nova Scotia International Tuna Tournament." Licenses for recreational tuna fishing are extremely rare, however the "NSITT" is sanctioned by both the Federal and Provincial Department of Fisheries. The "NSITT" is one of the few opportunities to fish for the elusive bluefin tuna and is the only licensed tuna tournament in Canada.
Tournament champions in the past have caught bluefin tuna in the range of 800 to 900 pounds and 8 to 9 feet in length. All fish caught in the tournament are sold to the commercial fisheries with the proceed of all sales being donated to the "IWK Health Centre" in Halifax Nova Scotia. The tournament has averaged in excess of $10,000 yearly  for the charity.
Teams from around the world compete with their own boats or charters arranged on their behalf by the tournament staff. Anglers who lack the boat, gear or knowledge to try tuna fishing can call on the expertise of our charter skippers. These charters operate seasonally in the commercial fishery and the crews are experienced at finding tuna.
The NSITT adheres to all IGFA rules and is proud to be an "IGFA" Offshore World Championship Qualifying Event. The winners of the NSITT are extended an invitation to compete in the World Fishing Championships that are held each year.
